The appliance has a circular turntable (6) which has a vertical axis of rotation and in the region of whose perimeter there are located specimen containers (15) which are arranged so as to be spaced with respect to one another. The rotation of the turntable is effected by means of a step motor (14). A rotor arrangement (16) is fitted coaxially with the turntable and has a tubular shaft (3) from which a plurality of arms (17) project radially. Arranged in a stationary manner in the tubular shaft (3) there is a lamp (10), and light beams are emitted in a radial direction through holes (7) in the wall of the tubular shaft opposite the lamp, each of which light beams, as the rotor arrangement rotates, successively irradiates the specimen containers. Photodetectors (9, 9') provided on the arms (17) of the rotor arrangement (16) record light which, owing to the irradiation of the specimen containers, reaches them directly or was scattered in the specimen containers. The signals which are emitted by the photodetectors (9, 9') and which depend on the intensity of the recorded light can be used to determine the specimens. The appliance is particularly suitable for the analysis of blood. <IMAGE>
