PURPOSE:To mount easily a cation exchange membrane into an electrolytic cell unit without damaging the exchange membrane in th stage of using the cation exchange membrane in place of asbestos diaphragm in an electrolytic cell using a bipolar type diaphragm method by fitting the continuous bag-shaped exchange membrane to cathodes by utilizing the reduced pressure then assembling the cathodes. CONSTITUTION:A cation exchange membrane formed into a continuous bag shape consisting of a flange part 8 in the outside circumferential part where the bag-shaped apertures are joined to each other and bag-shaped parts 9 is put on the finger cathodes 3 on the cathode chamber side of a bipolar type electrolytic cell. The flange part 8 is sealed by, for example, a self-adhesive tape, in the outside circumferential part of a cathode chamber flange and thereafter the inside of the cathode chamber is evacuated. The cathodes 3 fitted with said exchange membrane are built in this state into an anode box 4 contg. many finger electrodes 5 of the electrolytic cell unit. The inside of the cathode chamber is maintained under the reduced pressure in the stage of assembling the cathodes 3 by inserting the same into the spaces among the anodes 5 opposite thereto and therefore the above-mentioned exchange membrane is held united in tight contact with the cathodes 3 and has no possibility of receiving damage by contacting with the anodes 5. |
