PURPOSE:To push out the residual lead in a writing instrument to the outside through a new lead, by arranging a guide for lifting the lower tubular body of the writing instrument by a predetermined distance with respect to the upper tubular body of the writing instrument at a position immediately below the pen holder of a writing instrument stocker. CONSTITUTION:When the lead in a writing instrument P held by the pen holder 12 in a describing head 10 becomes short and removed from a lead chuck, the describing head 10 detects absence of lead and moves to a pen change waiting position. When the writing instrument P is brought to the pen holder 20 in the pen stocker 16 through motion of the describing head 10 in Y-direction, the lower end of the lower tubular body 24 of the writing instrument P rides over the upper face of a guide 62 and the lower tubular body 24 lifts by about 2mm with respect to a guide tube 30 while resisting against the resiliency of a coil spring. When a new lead is pushed through a lead insertion hole 27 into the upper tubular body 26 until the upper end of the lead matches to the upper face of the upper tubular body 26, the residual lead is pushed out even if the overall length is shorter by 2mm than the regular dimension, i.e. 58mm, and falls into a residual lead containing tank 56. |
