<p>PURPOSE:To provide an adsorbent excellent in the performance of removing gas containing sulfur by heat treatment of an active carbon fiber having a specified nitrogen content and a specific surface area made of acrylonitril fiber after a specified metal compound is attached thereto. CONSTITUTION:One or more kinds of compounds of Zn, Fe, Cu and Ni are attached to an active carbon fiber having a nitrogen content of 4 to 10% and a specific surface area of 400 to 800 m<2>/g made of an acrylonitril fiber. Then, the fiber undergoes a heat treatment in an inert gas above 800 deg.C thereby a fibrous adsorbent containing 1 to 10% by weight of the afore-mentioned metal. For example, after oxidation at 200 to 300 deg.C, an acrylonitril resin is treated by an activated medium such as carbon dioxide at 700 to 1,000 deg.C. Then, after attachement of one or more kinds of inorganic or organic salt of Zn, Fe, Cu and Ni by impregnant, it is subjected to a heat treatment in the stream of nitrogen above 800 deg.C for 5 to 10 minutes. Thus, an adsorbent for removal of poisonous gas containing sulfur can be obtained.</p> |
