The link plate has identical annular heads (1h) connected by a neck (4h) of reverse edge curvature, having a specially contoured offset neck zone to promote improved chain wheel engagement. Successive pairs of links are connected by axle pins and spacer sleeves through overlapping heads, alternative links being inset. The neck length may be set towards the exterior, remaining parallel to the co-planar heads, and being defined by nominally ramped steps on the head boundaries. Alternatively the transition may be provided by a double step, and both details may inc. longitudinal edge flanges (5h) to the neck zones, the flanges having convex curvature when viewed in elevation.
