In a ski binding having a support (6) which can be rotated about a vertical axis (5), a latching pin (12) has initially to be unlatched from a notch (9) in the case of a load caused by a twisting fall. After the pin has been unlatched, an eccentric curve (10) presses a pin (17) back against a spring (18) and by this means releases the rear sole hold-down (26) via a kinetic transmission chain (32, 30, 29, 27), the moment on the axis (5) being significantly smaller than during the unlatching process. In the case of a frontwards fall the same transmission chain is actuated in a reverse sequence starting from the sole hold-down (26). This ski binding prevents uncontrollable frictional effects which could have an adverse influence on the accuracy of repeating the releasing moment or the restoring moment which is effective if the releasing moment is not reached. Furthermore, the design of the force and motion transmission in the second phase ensures that after the pin has been unlatched the skier's leg is no longer subject to a significant load. <IMAGE>
