Basic Al chlorosulphate solns. (A) are prepd. by (a) reacting CaCl2 with an Al sulphate soln. at >=90(90-100) degrees C for >=30(30-120) min.; (b) reacting soln. obtd. in (a) for >=30 min. with CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 or CaO at 80-85 degrees C and (c) cooling soln. obtd. in (b), or allowing it to cool, at a cooling-rate such that soln. temp. falls to 60 degrees C after about 90 min. from start of CaSO4 pptn. in (b). Quantities of CaCl2 and CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 or CaO reacted and time of reaction (b) are such that a basic Al chlorosulphate is obtd. having mol. ratio Al/OH 1:1.5 to 1:2.5 (>1:1.8) and molar ratio Al/SO4 1:0.05 to 1:0.2. Opt. diluted solns. (A) are pref. used for treating water contg. suspended material, e.g. treatment of drinking water tanks, waste water, industrial supply water and waste water and sewage water. Solns. are stable also on 10 x dilution.
|
