HV or EHV cable has the cable constructor enclosed in cross-linking or non-crosslinking thermoplastic insulation. The method of mfr. is designed to provide an insulation material that is almost completely free of cavities or interstices. Cooling of the extruded insulating material at least takes place in a first step only over part of the periphery of the insulating material surface. The remaining part of the insulating material surface is maintained at a temp. initially above the crystal melting point.
