Pigment-polyurethane prepns. are made by dispersing pigments inone or more of teh polyurethane reaction components, or in a polyurethane prepolymer, and addding the other components which react to form the polyurethane carrier. Used in the colouring of plastics, e.g. vinyl chloride homo- or co-polymers, polyamides or esp. polyurethanes. Use of the low-viscosity and highly polar polyurethane carrier assist dispersion of the pigment in the plastics, and increases output of mixers or mills. The colours obtd. are homogeneous, free of spots and stripes, and resistant to hydrolysis. The carrier can readily be varied for each application to give optimum compatibility. |
