The lock of a vehicle safety belt incorporates a push-button. A tongue fits into a cavity in the housing, with a latch piece containing a tongue which moves orthogonally to the direction in which the tongue is inserted. A securing piece keeps the latch piece in position, on impact, and has a linearly moving locking mechanism which operates when the button is pressed. The button is attached to the latch piece and to an abutment on the latch piece. The button has a slanting guide face for the latch piece.
