<p>The apparatus comprises a rotating drum with fins to produce mixing of its contents during rotation, an inlet, pref. air-tight, for the raw materials, an outlet for the hot mixt after treatment, an air inlet at one end and a gas outlet at the other, a fan to induce a gas current from the reaction chamber to the outlet and a heater to raise the raw materials to a sufficiently high temp. to convert them to the required state. The apparratus includes a pressure gauge, two thermocouples in a control circuit which controls the conditions within the chamber and the gaseous flow across the chamber. By controlling the conditions within the reaction chamber and controlling the air flow from the chamber as a function of these conditions it is possible to ensure the liquefaction of the binder and the removal of the moisture content with a greater degree of efficiency giving a hot mixture conforming to the required specification. At the same time the loss by oxidn. of the binder is kept to a minimum.</p> |
