In a desalination process for seawater by distillation, the surface water which has been heated by solar irradiation is evaporated at a temp. to suit the surface temp. The low pressure, required for this evaporation, is maintained by a corresponding water column. Colder water from greater depths is used for the condensation of the steam produced from the surface water. This system requires no maintenance and is free from the problem of scale deposits. No extraneous energy is required and the desalination proceeds even at night time.
|
