<p>The input (2) and output (3) shafts in a gearbox (1) are coaxial, and can be connected to each other though a common layshaft (7) and one of six other lay-shafts (9, 12), to provide five forward and one reverse gear. These six layshafts are mounted in a rotatable housing (8). Rotation of this housing will bring the selected layshaft into position to engage the common layshaft, the housing being locked in position by a pin (32). Direct connection of the input and output shafts provides a sixth gear.</p> |
