The double disc wedge gate valve has a spindle which, at its lower end holds rearward projections on the discs. These have limited movement about a horizontal axis and engage a pressure element between them. The plates are held on the end by slotted hollow pins inserted in cross-bores, displaced relative to one another so that the line through the centres of one pair includes an angle of 6 deg. to 8 deg. with the vertical. The pins are at right angles to the direction of flow and are longitudinally secured.
