The hand towel dispenser has a built in washing system. The drying efficiency of the laundry unit can be improved by reducing the water content of the water-enriched air in the drying and/or washing chamber. This air can be passed by a blower through or past the damp remover. The towel is preferably dried by heated air. The towel and air are guided on the counterflow principle. A cooler can be provided to condense the water out of the drying air. The towel sections preferably pass through the drying chamber horizontally.
