<p>A pressure roller is used in an electrostatic copier for transferring the developed toner image on a rotating drum to the copy paper passing in contact with the drum. The pressure roller control senses the approaching copy paper and brings the roller into contact. The roller is belt driven from the main image carrying drum. The direction and relative drive wheel sizes for the two belts ensure the speeds of the two drums rollers is proportional. The pressure roller is operated by a sensor in the paper path which operates an electromagnetically controlled arm on which the pressure roller is mounted.</p>
