1478232 Selective hydrogenation of cyclopentadiene GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 30 April 1975 [29 Aug 1974] 17994/75 Heading C5E Cycolopentene is prepared by the selective hydrogenation of cyclopentadiene with H 2 at 100-600 psig in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst prepared by reacting a Ni salt of a carboxylic acid with an aluminium trialkyl in small amounts of a hydrocarbon solvent, the mole ratio of aluminium trialkyl : nickel salt being 1À5 : 1 to 10 : 1 and the hydrogenation being conducted in an alcoholic solvent system. In the Examples, the catalyst was prepared by reacting nickel octanoate and Et 3 Al in a small amount of benzene. Ethanol was used as the solvent for the hydrogenation.
