Chassis for driven rolls in multitrack continuous casting plant - where upper, driven rolls are each mounted on pivot lever carrying gearbox driven by telescopic shaft

On a baseplate are four long vertical pillars and four short vertical pillars. Each pair of short pillars is used to provide a pivot mounting for a lever fitted with two bearings carrying an upper roll. The free end of the lever is fitted to the bottom end of a piston actuated by a work cylinder contg. a pressurised fluid which is fitted between a pair of long pillars. Each pair of long pillars carries a motor and gearbox rotating a telescopic cardan shaft. The bottom end of the shaft is used to drive a worm in a gearbox fitted on the lever and thus rotating the upper roll. The two mating lower rolls are both mounted via bearings on the baseplate and can be idling or driven rolls. Provides a simple and inexpensive design which does not create torsional loads which would prevent the upper and lower rolls from being parallel.
