The ignition timing detector functions during the engine operation and indicates the ignition timing as compared with a preset idle run ignition timing. It also indicates changing of the ignition timing during the engine operation. The idle run timing is preferably determined as a rated value. The deviating operational timing is indicated as an advance or retard. The detector may be in the form of an ammeter, a visual, or an audio indicator. The indicator monitors the cam dwell angle and thus enables immediate detection of ignition timing changes. This prevents wear of the distributor shaft, arcing of contacts and extends the service life of the contact breaker spring. |
