The strip disclosed has a channel-shaped metal carrier (5) which is embedded in synthetic plastics or rubber material (6) which defines inwardly directed gripping ribs (10, 12). A thin layer (8) of heat-responsive material is placed on the inside surface of the material (6). The strip is then placed over an edge flange (14) which is to be protected against corrosion. When the strip is subjected to externally applied heat, at an enhanced temperature which is not sufficient to damage the material (6) embedding the carrier (5), the heat-responsive material (8) expands so as to fill the space between the strip and the flange (14) and to become tacky so as to seal and stick to the flange (14). Alternatively the material (6) is itself heat-fusible. Strips according to the invention are particularly suitable for protecting parts of vehicle bodywork against corrosion.

|
