PURPOSE:To simplify a circuit configuration and to reduce the cost by directly inputting a high power non-modulation millimeter wave into an optical modulator and converting the wave into an optical signal in accordance with a binary signal. CONSTITUTION:The non-modulation millimeter wave signal generated in a millimeter wave signal generator 2 is impressed on the central conductor 21 of the coplanar line of an optical modulator 100 via a narrow-band amplifier 3. At the same time, the binary signal sequence generated by a data transmitter 5 is superposed on the bias voltage of a DC power source 4 and the binary signal sequence is impressed on the other end of the central conductor 21. When a non-modulation millimeter wave signal is defined as a sub-carrier wave, the bias voltage in the optical modulator 100 is set to locate on a linear area having inclinations of different codes with each other in accordance with a binary signal, a signal including BPSK sub-carrier wave having the same sub-carrier wave frequency as the non-modulation millimeter wave signal is generated and it is transmitted. Thus, the generation and amplification of a frequency millimeter wave to be modulated are unnecessitated and a simple circuit configuration is enabled. |
