PURPOSE:A microorganism belonging to Pseudomonus is cultured in a medium containing biphenyl and the culture is subjected to extraction to give 2-hydroxy-6- oxo-6-phenylhexanoic acid used for intermediate of bactericidal agent, drugs and agricultural chemicals. CONSTITUTION:A Pseudomonus bacterium producing 2-hydroxy-6-oxo-6-phenylhexanoic acid, such as Pseudomonus SG 1296, or Pseudomonus SG 9837, is cultured in a medium containing biphenyl, a by-product produced in large quantities on petroleum refining, and 2-hydroxy-6-oxo-6-phenylhexanoic acid is separated from the culture. |
