PURPOSE:To prepare D-N-carbamyl(p-hydroxyphenyl)glycine in high yield, by contacting 5-(p-hydroxyphenyl)hydantoin with bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas genus. CONSTITUTION:Cultured liquid, cells or treated cells, prepared by culturing bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas genus and capable of assymmetrically hydrolyzing a hydantoin ring, are mixed or inoculated to 5-(p-hydroxyphenyl)hydantoin, and made to react in an aqueous medium at pH6-11 to perform the assymmetric hydrolysis of the hydantoin ring. The racemization reaction of the hydantoin ring is accelerated by this process, and the D-N-carbamyl(p-hydroxyphenyl)glycine can be obtained in high yield. The product is useful as an intermediate of semi-synthetic penicillin, semi-synthetic cephalosporin, etc. |
