The crate has an opening in a side-wall enclosed at the top by a transverse strut. A locking bar slides vertically between top and bottom stops and extends horizontally between the opening edges. The bar comprises an oblong plate (4') sliding inside the crate and joining onto a grip strip protruding from it into the opening and of shorter length. Joining onto the strip ends and held clear of the plate are flat guide members, the length of the plate and the distance between the outermost edges of the members being greater than the horizontal width of the opening between the stops.
