New hydrated or rehydratable gels laminated onto a polyester film comprise a polymer (I) of N-methylol-acrylamide (II) in the structure of which is included a gellable polysaccharide (III) contg. COOH gps. (I) is formed from (II) and a bifunctional allylic or acrylic agent, esp. N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (IV) for insoluble gels; diallyl-tartramide for gels soluble in 2% HIO4, or ethylene diacrylate for gels soluble in alkali soln. (III) is pref. agarose with strong electroendo-osmotic props. contg. only COOH gps. and is used at 0.1-1%. Used for electrophoretic sepn. of plasma and serum lipoproteins in a discontinuous gradient. Any chylomicrons are completely retained near the sample reservoir; pre-beta-lipoproteins are stopped at the gradient boundary; while the beta-, alpha- and pre-alpha components are sepd. in the more conc. gel. Densitometric measurements are easier on plates than on cylinders, and the plates can be dried after use to give supple films which are easily stored.
|
