The fastener for flexible, flat material, especially for use as coverings for a vehicle seat and especially a head rest, consists of an elastic grooved section (1) with at least one wedge-shaped piece (6). Fitting into the grooved section (1) is a catch with one end (4) at least formed of the flexible covering material (10). The edge (5) of the material is reinforced, aong a strip. One end piece (8) is fixed to the inside or outside of the grooved section which itself consists of two parallel, coverging arms (2, 3).
