Process for the preparation of a new naphthacene derivative

The substance of the formula below is obtained by the anaerobic culture of a microorganism chosen from: Streptomyces coeruleorubidus DS 7126 (NRRL 8098) Streptomyces coeruleorubidus DS 31 723 (NRRL 3045) Streptomyces coeruleorubidus DS 8899 (NRRL 3046) Streptomyces bifurcus DS 23 219 (NRRL 3539) and Streptomyces atroviolaceus DS 8938 (NRRL 8148). The substance thus obtained possesses antitumour activity at doses ranging from 0.125 to 0.250 mg/kg i.p. in mice. It is active against leukaemia L 1210, leukaemia P 388 and leukosarcomatosis. <IMAGE>
