Title compds. (I) used as herbicides and plant growth controlling agent were prepd. by reaction of 4-methylthio-2-trifluoromethylaniline (II) with methyl sulfonyl chloride. II was isolated by reducing the nitro group of 2-nitro-5methylthiobenzo-trifluoride, which was isolated by heating the 5-chloro-2-nitro benzotrifluoride with methanthiol in inactive solvent in the presence of base.
