Newspaper wrapping and bundling system for postage - uses automatic control system with sensors delivering signals to comparison and memory circuits

The machine for wrapping bundles of newspapers ready for posting is operated completely automatically by an electronic control system. The folding and wrapping section includes a rotation detector at the drive for the conveyor which advances the flat newspapers to the conveyors between which the papers are folded. At the feed end of the first conveyor is a wrapper dispensing mechanism, and counting devices check the number of papers in a stack and the number of wrappers in a supply magazine. When the paper has been folded, an identification mark on the wrapper is checked. Synchronising devices check the operation of rolling the paper and wrapping it. A computer and memory system records the number of papers wrapped. The correct number of papers is stacked and formed into a bundle and conveyed by a carriage to the binding position, using a comparison system.
