PURPOSE:To remove arsenic or its compounds by adsorption efficiently by treating hydrocarbon containing arsenic by-produced through fluidized bed contact cracking of petroleum with a copper oxide-carrying catalyst baked at 25-600 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst manufactured by baking copper oxide carried by a carrier such a manganese oxide at 300 deg. in the air for two hours, has at least 0.07ml/g of an area of pores each having a radius 150-300Angstrom and at least 20m<2>/g of specific surface area. This catalyst is allowed to come in contact with either a gas or a liquid, and in such a case, either one of the fixed bed system, mobile bed system or fluidized bed system is employed. If this catalyst is used, a high concentration of arsenic can be removed at a high removal rate with a small quantity of catalyst. In addition, even if olefines were contained in the gas containing arsenic or its compounds, no polymerization with these olefines occurs. |
