Liquid - liquid dispersions are sepd. in system with precoalescing space. The initial mixt. should have a dispersed phase fraction of 0.28-0.65. Residence tiem inprecoalescer should be 10 to 30 sec. After leaving the pre-coalescer the mixt. enters a separator. The sepn. space consists of an array of small spaces with vertical and horizontal divisions. The dimensions of the spaces are selected so that when the liq. flows through, the resulting pressure drop causes the mixt. to assume a wedge shape as the pure phases separate out. For sepg. liq. mixts. with a dispersed phase compsn. of 0.28-0.65 gives a cheap compact settler construction. |
