A plastic crate, at least one side of the crate having an opening, for the storage & transport of goods such as bottles and the like, was comprised of a substantially rectangular bottom wall, vertical columns at all four corners, U-shaped horizontal beams interconnecting the columns at the top & bottom, a crossbar spanning the opening & movable vertically between a lowered locked position & an upper position, and each of the crate walls defined by the columns & beams.
