The shovel is esp. designed for use by dog owners, a typical application being the transfer of canine excretia from the footway to the gutter. It comprises a relatively short shaft (1) with a handle bar (12) and a blade (2) on opposite ends. The blade is angled to the shaft, inc. a cover (S), and may be of a right trapezoidal shape with the lesser parallel side (23) fixing to the shaft. The non-parallel edges (21, 22) of the blade may have upturned edge flanges which converge to house the end of the shaft, fixing being effected by a tight collar (3). Alternatively, the shaft may be telescopic with the table fixed to a rod which slides in a hollow shaft, or a pinned blade fixing may permit retraction by pivoting back against the shaft. A strap (14) is provided for hanging storage, being incorporated on the top of the shaft or on a special end cap.
