Fruits esp. grapes, are mechanically gathered by severing them from their stalks. This is achieved by 'brushing' them off the stalks under the section of an impulse-type of energy. Suitable equipment comprises >=1 rapidly rotating brush roller with flexible bristles. The roller has an outer dia. of 600-1400, pref. 800-1100 mm; the bristle are 250-500 mm long, 1.0-2.0 mm thick, and the roller rotates at 100-600, pref. 200-400 rpm. The bristles are fixed in the roller core in tufts of bristles. They are made of tought, smooth, plastics, pref. polyethylene, but esp. PTFE.
