The musical instrument, e.g. an oboe, includes a device for improving the timbre. The sound provided by the instrument is defined by at least one characteristic pattern, the device providing selective modification of the amplitude of the sound signal within the range of this pattern, to obtain a flat resonance curve throughout the range. The device may use a microphone attached to the resonance body of the instrument, supplying a signal to a selective amplifier, its output being used to control mechanical oscillations applied to the resonance body.
