The step for a silo or bunker can be attached to an existing conventional step which does not fully comply with regulations. The improved step (1) has an overall width larger than the conventional step with a pocket-like recess underneath the actual step surface (12), large enough to accommodate the cantilevered part (2) of a conventional step. The front edge (5) is somewhat elevated above the step surface and is shaped as a grip in conjunction with a slot in the stepping surface. The attachment also has raised edges (8) to prevent sideways slipping. The attachment is clamped down by screws (19) using projections (21) on the existing step as an abutment element.
