1353484 Acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile NITTO CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CO Ltd 21 May 1971 [23 May 1970 7 Aug 1970 (2) 28 Sept 1970 (2)] 16340/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile are produced by reacting propylene or isobutylene, respectively, with ammonia and oxygen in the vapour phase in contact with a catalyst comprising (i) an oxide of one or more of Fe, Mn, Co, Ni, Cd or Pb, (ii) an oxide of tungsten and, optionally, (iii) an oxide of P, B, S, Se or Te, the ratio of tungsten to element(s)- (i) being from 1 : 10 to 90 : 10 and the ratio of element(s) (ii) to element(s) (i) being from 0 to 15 : 10. The process is carried out at 370‹ to 550‹ C., with a molar ratio of oxygen to olefin of 0À5 : 1 to 6 : 1 and of ammonia to olefin of 0À7 : 1 to 3 : 1. |
