PURPOSE:To improve slip characteristic and flaw resistance without impairing photographic characteristics, transparency, coating characteristic and bondability by adding the specific hydrophthalate diester on the surface layer of a photographic material. CONSTITUTION:The hydrophthalate diester of formula I, II or III (R1, R2, R5, R6, R9 are H, alkyl of 1-4C, halogen; R3, R4 are H, alkyl of 1-4C, halogen, groups forming divalent saturated fatty group bridges of ethylene or methylene with mutual direct bonding; R7, R8 are alkyl of 12-24C, F substituted alkyl of 8-12C) of R1 thru R6, R9 being preferably H is added to the coating solution of the surface protecting layer of the photographic material or the back layer coating solution using hydrophilic colloid as a binder, preferably at 0.1 to 7 wt% based on the solid weight in the coating composition and preferably at 20 to 100 mg per 1 m<2> in the case of the back layer or overcoating layer which does not have any hydrophilic colloid. |
