1452492 Making wiring harnesses RIST'S WIRES & CABLES Ltd 28 Jan 1974 [14 Feb 1973] 7171/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] A wiring harness comprises at least one conductive lead 12, including a conductive core within a thermoplastic sheath, the sheath being fused to a flexible thermoplastic backing strip 11, a terminal 13 electrically connected to one end of the core and a thermoplastic cover 14 engaged with said terminal and fused to the backing strip to secure the terminal in position. The cover 14 may be in the form of a thermoplastic strip 15 overlying the terminal and fused to the backing strip on opposite sides of the terminal, or it could take the form of individual thermoplastic sleeves 16, 18 securing female and male terminals respectively to the backing strip. Indicia identifying the terminals may be embossed on the backing strip adjacent the terminals. The thermoplastic may be polyvinylchloride. A method of manufacturing the harness is described in which the leads are laid on a platform with their terminals, and sleeves, or the strip 15 under the leads, and the backing strip is dispensed from a reel. The mutually presented surfaces are heated and the leads and cover are fused to the backing strip in the same operation. |
