Process for the preparation of phenol derivatives of hydroxyalkylalkylenediaminoacetic acids and their salts

Compounds of formula (1) below are obtained by reaction in a water/alcohol medium of an unsubstituted or parasubstituted phenol compound with the methylol resulting from the reaction between formaldehyde and an alkali metal or alkaline-earth metal salt of a hydroxyethylalkylenediaminodiacetic acid or of a dihydroxyethylalkylenediaminoacetic acid, at a temperature of between 60 and 100 DEG C and at a pH of between 8 and 11. The compounds obtained are capable of forming soluble chelation products with iron and other stable metals contained in calcareous soils, which makes them convenient for correcting the deficiencies in trace elements of certain plant crops: <IMAGE> the meaning of the symbols being given in Claim 1.o
