The wool-containing fibre materials are dyed with 1:1 metal complex dyes or acid metal-free wool dyes in the presence of an aqueous dyeing assistant comprising at least (a) a quaternisation product of a polyglycol ether derivative of a fatty amine of at least 16 carbon atoms which has from 15 to 100 -CH2-CH(X)O- groups, where X is hydrogen or methyl, and (b) an optionally etherified N-methylolurea. The dyeing can be carried out at a temperature from 60 to 130 DEG C, preferably 80 to 120 DEG C. The dyeings obtained are level in the fibre and the piece and show no signs of damage to the wool.
