X=ray pipe flaw detector - uses electro-magnets to position source in pipe and photograph pipe walls

The x-ray flaw detector (11) is used to produce x-ray photographs of a pipe (31). A magnetic field generator is clamped to the pipe exterior and the detector (1) is approx. positioned in the pipe using a proximity detector (64) which locates the soft iron disc on the detector (1). This turns on in electromagnet which pulls the detector into the exact position. The field is then reduced to hold the detector in position. The proximity detector (64) field is then increased to uncover the x-ray source and photograph the weld (4).
