Clad metal prod. consists of a core (a) of Cu or its alloys coated with >=1 layer (b) of Al or its alloys, followed by >=1 external layer (c) of stainless steel bonded to the Al (b). The prod. is made by (1) mechanical cleaning by abrasion of metal sheets (a,b), followed by bonding the sheets using a pressur which reduces the total sheet thickness by 20-70%. The composite sheets (a,b,c) are annealed at 600-800 degrees F to cause diffusion between the sheets. The pref. prod. consists of a sheet of Cu (a) clad on both sides with a sheet of al(b); with one or both layers of Al (b) covered by stainless steel (c). Used e.g. for mfg. cooking utensils, where the composite provides excellent thermal conductivity so e.g. uniform heat distribution is obtd. across the entire base of a casserole; and there is no need to use a non-stick coating.
|
