Process and a device for the manufacture of fibres from a thermoplastic material

A molten thermoplastic material leaves a crucible (200) and flows as a lace (S). A main gas stream (12A) travels horizontally below the crucible (200). An oblique secondary gas jet leaves an orifice (36) with a kinetic energy per volume which is higher than that of the main stream and forms with the latter a region of interaction which the lace of material enters. A certain space is provided between the outlet (37) of the crucible and the limit of the main stream (12A). This makes it possible more easily to control the atmosphere surrounding the crucible, to install certain heating or lagging arrangements around the latter, and to reduce the influence of its temperature on that of the main stream. The process and the device are employed especially for the manufacture of glass fibres. <IMAGE>
