The system to monitor and indicate the concn. of brine in the regenerated saline soln. in the softening unit for a clothes or dishes washing machine has the outlet for the brine located directly near the lid, pref. at the level of the upper edge of the filling tube. The float is held below this level. The purpose is to ensure that the action of the interfacial tension of water with a low brine concn. does not hinder the movement of the body, and that air bubbles do not develop which could affect the action. There is an overflow sleeve for the brine outlet in the filling tube and spaced from it so that the overflow edge incorporates the upper edge of the filler. There are vertical webs to maintain the gap between the overflow and filler, so that they form separate overflow channels leading to a common collection zone.
