Refuse conversion to compost - by storing in successive layers with intermittent stirring and ripening

A treatment (aeration, humidification, inoculation) of bulk material, esp. for turning refuse into compost, uses conveyors which spread the material in uniform layers to a certain height. The material is left undisturbed for a time to complete the reaction, followed by loosening it up throughout its height. This sequence is repeated until the desired ripeness is reached. This prevents the formation of putrefactive foci and the emission of evil smells. The compost produced has a good quality and ripeness and can be produced at reasonable cost.
