In the braking mechanism for the spindle of a spinning or twisting machine, the brake pad in the housing is connected to a grip by a linkage at the opposite side to the spindle. The brake pad is fitted with one or more projections on its periphery. The design improves the operation of the braking system, and increases its operating life.
