PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent liquid leakage and capacitance decrease by transferring almost all of ionized supporting salt, contained in the electrolyte to the vicinity of electrode surfaces under a fully charged condition. SOLUTION: Under a fully charged condition, electric double layers are formed by ionized supporting salt. Since the supporting salt is mostly adsorbed in the vicinity of electrodes under the fully charged condition, the supporting salt is almost absent in an electrolyte 106, which lies apart from the electrodes. The concentration of the electrolyte is adjusted, so that a slightly small amount of the supporting salt remains under a fully charged condition to suppress voltage lowering to some extent in initial discharge. Furthermore, the capacitance of the cathode is made smaller than that of the anode. For the electrodes, powdered activated carbon mixed with a proper binder and press-molded or rolled are used. Polyaniline obtained by electrolytic polymerization is also used. For an electrolyte 106, containing non-aqueous solvent, ammonium salt, is used for the supporting salt. |
