METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MEASURING AMOUNT OF SOIL LOADED ON TRUCK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automate the measurement of the amount of soil loaded on a truck and the work of creating documents by picking up the image of the surface of the load-carrying perform of a truck for loading soil which passes a gate and the images of a vehicle body number and a vehicle type and computing the amount of loaded soil from the images of the load-carrying platform of the same truck before and after the loading of soil and its vehicle type. SOLUTION: When a truck 1 passes a gate 3 before and after the loading of soil, an optical sensor 7 detects it to operate the shutters of digital cameras 4a and 4b simultaneously to pick up the image of the surface shape of the load-carrying platform 2 before loading and the image of the surface shape of loaded soil after loading. In addition, the images of the number plate and vehicle type of the truck 1 are picked up by a video camera 8 arranged at the gate 3. After the completion of image pickup, the images are processed by a computer 10, and the images are superposed on each other by a stereo image measuring method to obtain the three-dimensional coordinates of the load-carrying platform 2 and the surface of the loaded soil. Then the amount of loaded soil is computed from the difference between the image shapes of the truck 1 of the same number before and after the loading of soil.
