PURPOSE:To recover resorcinol from a mixture obtained by the acid decomposition reaction of m-diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide, while preventing the loss of resorcinol, by distilling off acetone and inert solvents from the mixture in the presence of a small amount of water. CONSTITUTION:Resorcinol is prepared by the acid decomposition of m-diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide in an inert solvent in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. Acetone and the inert solvent are distilled off from the reaction product containing carbinols, olefins and peroxides (the total amount is >=0.1 mole per 1 mole of resorcinol) at 70-140 deg.C in the presence of water (20-70 wt.% based on resorcinol).
